Harry Wakefield Bramma (11 November 1936 - 23 August 2026) RIP

We received the news of our patron Harry’s death with much sadness. Harry was a great friend to SWO: he accepted the role of patron back in 2019 with alacrity and he supported several SWO events in person. He had already done much to further women’s role in church music after he was appointed Director of the Royal School of Church Music in 1989; in doing so he was courageous, upsetting traditionalists who had regarded the RSCM as a bastion of male music-making. Thank you for your mighty contribution to church music, Harry; may you rest in peace and rise in glory.

Anne completed a Spotlight interview with Harry just three days before his death, and we offer it as a tribute to his life and work.
